Privacy Policy
Effective October 18, 2026
Stowe is a personal budgeting app for iPhone. This policy explains what information Stowe uses, where it is stored, and the choices you have. In short: most of your data stays on your iPhone, we keep only what we need to connect to your bank, and we never sell your information.
Information stored on your iPhone
The following information is stored only on your device and is not sent to our servers:
- Your budgets, categories, category rules, savings plans, and answers you give during setup.
- A local copy of your bank transactions, used to show and categorize your spending.
- Reminders you create, including any places you choose for location-based reminders.
This data may be included in your device backups (for example, iCloud Backup), depending on your iPhone settings. Deleting the app removes it from your device.
Bank connections through Plaid
Stowe uses Plaid Inc. to connect to your bank. When you link an account, you sign in to your bank through Plaid. Stowe never sees or stores your bank username or password. With your permission, Plaid gives Stowe your account information and transactions (amount, date, merchant name, category, and pending status). Plaid's handling of your data is described in the Plaid End User Privacy Policy.
Information stored on our servers
To keep your bank connection working, our server stores only:
- The account identifier Sign in with Apple gives us for Stowe. Stowe does not request your name or email, and the identifier is unique to Stowe.
- Sign-in sessions for your devices, stored only in hashed form.
- The access token and item ID that Plaid issues for each linked bank, plus a sync position so only new transactions are fetched.
Your transactions pass through our server on their way from Plaid to your iPhone. We do not keep them on the server. Our hosting provider may briefly log technical information such as IP addresses and request times to operate and secure the service.
Location, Face ID, and notifications
- Location: If you create a place-based reminder, Stowe uses your location on your device to notify you when you arrive at or leave that place. Your location is not sent to us.
- Face ID: App Lock uses Apple's Face ID or passcode check. Stowe never receives your biometric data.
- Notifications: Budget reminders are scheduled on your device.
You can turn these permissions off at any time in the iPhone Settings app.
How we use information
We use your information only to provide Stowe's features: showing your spending, categorizing transactions, tracking budgets and goals, and sending the reminders you set up. We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use third-party advertising or analytics tracking.
Sharing
We share information only:
- With Plaid, to connect to your bank and retrieve your transactions.
- With the service providers that host our server and database, who process data only on our behalf.
- When the law requires it, or to protect the safety and security of our users and service.
Security
All communication between the app, our server, and Plaid is encrypted in transit with HTTPS. Plaid access tokens stay on our server and are never sent to the app. Our database is not reachable from the public internet. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and limit what we store.
Retention and deletion
We keep your account and bank connection data until you delete your account. To delete it, open Stowe and go to Profile → Delete account. Stowe asks Plaid to end every bank connection and deletes your account, access tokens, and sessions from our server. You can also email cecehaase@gmail.com and we will do the same and confirm when it's done. You can also manage or revoke connections at my.plaid.com. Deleting the app removes the data stored on your iPhone.
Children
Stowe is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above. If the changes are significant, we will let you know in the app.
